Privacy Policy

CFI Endorse Log is an iPhone and iPad app that helps flight instructors keep track of the endorsements they issue. This page explains what information the app handles and how.

We don't collect your data

CFI Endorse Log has no user accounts and no login, and we don't operate any server that receives, stores or has access to your data. Nothing you enter in the app — student names, certificate numbers, endorsement records, proof photos — is ever sent to us. The only data sent to a third party that isn't under your control is described under Advertising below, and it never includes anything you've entered.

What the app stores, and where

Everything you enter is stored on your own device. It stays there until you delete it or delete the app, except where you choose one of the options below:

  • iCloud Sync (Pro, off by default): your records sync through Apple's iCloud, in your own iCloud account, to your other devices signed in to it. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy; we can't access it.
  • Automatic Backup (Pro, off by default): a backup file is saved about once a day to a folder you pick in the Files app, or to a Dropbox account you connect. If you connect Dropbox, the app only uses its own app folder in your Dropbox, and the sign-in token is kept in your device's secure Keychain.
  • Export Backup: creates a backup file when you ask. Where it goes — Files, email, AirDrop — is up to you, through Apple's share sheet.
  • App Lock: Face ID and your passcode are handled by iOS. If you set an in-app PIN, it's stored in your device's Keychain.

Camera and Photo Library access

The app asks for camera or photo library access only so you can attach a proof photo to an endorsement. Photos are processed and stored on your device like everything else — never uploaded by the app except as part of iCloud Sync or a backup you turned on.

Network requests the app makes

  • Content updates: downloads public, read-only files (corrected FAA endorsement wording and the Find a FIRC provider list) so they can be updated without an app update.
  • FAA edition check: asks faa.gov whether a newer edition of the advisory circular has been published.
  • iCloud and Dropbox: only if you turn on iCloud Sync or connect Dropbox, as described above.
  • App Store: Apple handles the Pro purchase; we never see payment details.

Content updates and the FAA check only download information — they never send anything about you, your students or your device.

Advertising

The free version shows banner ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob can personalize ads using your device's advertising identifier, which requires your permission under Apple's App Tracking Transparency — you'll see a one-time prompt the first time an ad would show. If you decline, you still see ads, just less targeted. Google may collect device and usage data as described in Google's privacy policy; we don't receive or have access to that data. Upgrading to Pro removes ads, and AdMob's activity, entirely.

Links to other websites

Find a FIRC and a few other links open websites in your browser (for example FIRC providers and faa.gov). Those sites have their own privacy policies.

Notifications

Reminders, such as your REED reminder, are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push-notification service or third party is involved.

This website

cfiendorselog.com has no analytics, no tracking and no cookies.

Children's privacy

CFI Endorse Log is intended for certificated flight instructors and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the update will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
